Math Update
This week, practiced writing subtraction story problems based on given fact families. This included developing a unit box and a number model. We made sure to include "subtraction words" in our story problems (Ex: more than, less than, gave away). The children also became familiar with the difference between a pan balance and a scale. We noticed that the pan balance helps us determine which item is heavier, while a scale tells us the actual weight of the item. We also reviewed that there are 16 ounces in a pound! Last but not least, the children are becoming masters of their +9 math facts. A fun fact: There were a handful of kids that asked me for some extra "mad minutes" so they could practice at home at the end of the day on Thursday! I love to see that self-motivation develop! Hooray!
