Hello!
It was great seeing everyone at Curriculum Night. Thank you for being such an attentive audience! :) We are so lucky to have very caring and interested families in our class. The children and I hit the ground running this week! Boy were we busy! We continued to reinforce the class structure that is growing stronger over time. The children are working hard to remember to stay "one arm" apart in the hallway and in the classroom. They appear to be feeling very comfortable in their new class! We were able to jump right into our reading, writing, math, and word study lessons!
Some skills we worked on this week include:
Reading:
-building a reading community. We will be reading books and discussing them to take our understanding even further!
Writing:
-Building a writing community. Just like our reading community, we will be sharing our writing with each other. Students will share ideas, feedback, and compliments for each other's written work!
-we learned to draw a picture and use personal experiences to get ideas for our writing
Word study
- consonant clusters (Ex: words that start with br, fl, st, gr )
- making words with short vowel sounds in the middle
Handwriting:
- forming capital letters properly, beginning at the top
Grammar:
- 5 parts of a complete sentence (Every sentence has a who, what, capital letter at the beginning, punctuation at the end, and it should makes sense)
Math:
- place value (ones, tens and hundreds)
- skip counting by ones, tens, and hundreds
- writing a number using word form, standard form, and expanded form
Be on the lookout for another Friday letter from your child! It can be found inside their Friday journal. Please feel free to read their note, talk to them about it, and/or write them back! They love seeing your notes!
