One more week down!

Katie and Eric reviewed the units of capacity that we have been learning about during math  for the class! Katie retold the story of the Galapagos Islands (gallons) with the 4 queens (quarts) 8 princes (pints) and the 16 canaries (cups) who live there- while Erick drew a picture on the board! Great teamwork you two! :)
The children took their Unit 9 math test this week, and then we jumped right into Unit 10!

We had our spring bus evacuation drill at school this week. We listened carefully about how to behave properly on the bus, and how to respond in case of an emergency. Even though some of us do not ride the bus regularly, we all take the bus when there is a field trip! The kids were on their BEST behavior during this drill. I was so proud!
Mrs. Jojo was our surprise star guest this week!
She brought in some family pictures and photo albums to help us get to know her better!
Mrs. Jojo also brought in several beautiful quilts that she has made! They were full of details and interest- the kids got up really close to take a look! Mrs. Jojo is very talented!!

Tyler and Nick are taking a closer look at those family photos!
Soon we were back to work! The children and I have begun studying the history of our town, Arlington Heights! We went back to the 1800's to learn about what the land in our area was like at that time. We learned that this land was a prairie, inhabited initially by the Potawatomi Indians. We visited a website called "Build A Prairie" that allowed us to picture the tall prairie grasses as well as the plants, animals, and insects that were abundant before the land was developed.
We also started learning more about the life of the Potawatomi Native Americans, and that will continue this upcoming week!
Our field trip to the Arlington Heights Historical Museum is coming up on April 16, where the children will be able to develop a stronger understanding of life in the late 1800's- visiting a log cabin, a coach house, "packing" a covered wagon, and touring the original home of one of our founding families! Thank you for sending back those permission slips as soon as possible!

Just a few highlights for you this week...
I hope you all enjoyed a nice, restful weekend!
:)
